Exhibition QUEERATED by David Zamora Casas
“XICANX: Dreamers and Change Makers” is an international collaboration which brings the Mexican-American struggle for human, ecological, and civil rights to the world spotlight, co-curated by Greta de Leon, Executive Director of The Americas Research Network, Mexico City, and Canadian Jill Baird, former Curator of Education, Museum of Anthropology, Vancouver, British Columbia.
💄💋Originally presented at the Museum of Anthropology and currently on view at Contemporary at Blue Star Art Complex building C.
Bihl Haus Arts joins the City of San Antonio and the Contemporary at Blue Star in declaring August 2024 the first in the state of Texas
INAUGURAL XICANX MONTH.
Bihl Haus Arts’ artist-in-residence / Curator David Zamora Casas invites artists to turn a virtual lens inward and contribute an artistic expression which addresses ethnic-specific themes and worldwide concerns with positive light, humility, hope and compassion.
“Xicanx artists will find a platform to celebrate their culture and heritage while addressing urgent issues such as:
The performative pseudo patriotism of “plastic patriots”
The harmful impact of racist, homophobic, and book-banning attitudes affecting children
The legacy of Anglo-European colonialism and its ongoing effects
The challenges faced by people of color in cultural spaces
The prevalence of hypocrisy in society
By sharing their unique perspectives, artists can honor Xicanx traditions and embrace recognition for their community’s contributions.
Art brings power to truth when we speak our undeniable collective and individual AMERICAN experiences.
