“Creating Community through the Arts”

The Mission of community-based Bihl Haus Arts, Inc. — Creating Community through the Arts — is founded on the belief that each person, when given a chance, will achieve significant personal, social, and cultural growth through the arts. Bihl Haus Arts nurtures and promotes the work of diverse visual and cultural artists in San Antonio and creates community between older adults, veterans, and neurodivergent adults, and area established and emerging artists.

Who We Are

Founded in 2005 and granted nonprofit status in 2007, Bihl Haus Arts is a San Antonio community-based 501(c)3 organization operating from a restored 1920 German stone residence at 2803 Fredericksburg Road. We are the only professional nonprofit contemporary art gallery on the premises of an affordable senior housing community in the United States. Under the leadership of Executive Director Nicholas Gonzales, Bihl Haus Arts continues to serve San Antonio through free arts education programs, a vibrant gallery, and the annual On and Off Fredericksburg Road Studio Tour.

Our Programs

GO! Arts provides free, professional art instruction to older adults at 14 senior centers across San Antonio. Classes are taught by accomplished local artists and cover drawing, painting, watercolor, creative writing, and more. GO! Arts is made possible in partnership with the City of San Antonio Department of Human Services and WellMed Charitable Foundation.

Forward Arts offers free art classes to veterans in a supportive, creative environment. Through artistic expression, Forward Arts helps veterans build community, develop new skills, and find a space that is entirely their own.

Onward Arts welcomes neurodivergent adults to explore creativity through free, hands-on art classes led by professional artists. Developed in collaboration with NeurospicySA, Onward Arts provides a welcoming space where neurodivergent adults can connect, create, and thrive.

Our Commitment to Inclusion

Bihl Haus Arts is committed to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
